Enhancing Your Assessments Using AI
Trevor Johnson-Steigelman
One of the challenges of teaching is coming up with varied ways to assess your students. Generative AI like ChatGPT, Gemini, and other tools can help you augment and diversify your current assessments and give you ideas for new ones.
We’ll investigate ways to create questions, rubrics, and examples of good or bad responses. Finally, we’ll discuss the pros, cons, and pitfalls of using AI for creating assessments.

The Potential Rewards and Challenges of Incorporating Podcasts into Your Instruction
Dave Canose and Kellie Gauvin
Ever since "Serial" debuted 10 years ago, podcasts have become increasingly popular. There are all kinds of podcasts, and you can quickly encounter the good, the bad, and, unfortunately, the ugly. If instructors steer toward the "good," podcasts can significantly enrich the classroom experience for students. The existence of the "bad" and the "ugly," however, necessitate thoughtful consideration of how to best incorporate podcasts into courses. This session will explore podcast-related possibilities for instruction, and Kellie will share her experience of having students create their own podcast. Join us for a lively discussion!

Building a HyFlex Community of Practice
Jeff Dugan
The Hyflex Community of Practice was brought together to fostering collaboration and share insights from Faculty, Online Learning and IT. In this session we'll talk about the necessary tools to deliver engaging and effective Hyflex courses. The discussion will focus on key aspects of Hyflex teaching, including course design, technology integration, student engagement strategies, and professional development opportunities.
We will discuss the relaunch this Community of Practice where faculty can share best practices, seek assistance, and collaborate with colleagues. Through this collaborative effort, we'll ensure that Hyflex courses at FLCC are of the highest quality, providing students with a valuable and enriching learning experience.

Brightspace Show and Tell (and a primer for Aaron's Custom Tool - ACT)
Dave Ghidiu
This session has two objectives:
We will gather and share cool tips, tricks, and techniques we are using in Brightspace! Maybe you have a bunch of pro-tips you want to share or perhaps you just want to see what other people are doing - come join the conversation!
We will also have a tour of the ACT - Aaron's Custom Tool. Aaron Sullivan developed a really slick way to make content in Brightspace pop! We'll take a tour of the tool and explore ways it is used in courses. This is a teaser for a session the CTL will be offering later on (drilling deep into ACT!).
Quick Wins: Easy Tactics for Enhancing Student Engagement
Sarah Heidebrink-Bruno
Are you interested in discovering some low effort/ high reward teaching practices that you can start using immediately to increase student engagement? This workshop will equip you with practical tools and techniques that can be easily implemented to create a more interactive and dynamic learning environment, regardless of discipline. We will have time to share ideas and build a "toolbox" of activities together that you can use this semester to increase engagement.
The Value of Interdisciplinary Approaches in the Classroom: History and Social Psychology as a Case Study
Dave Canose & Eric Duchess
In this presentation, Eric Duchess (History) will explain how a simple tenure team observation of his colleague, David Canose (Psychology), inspired him to directly incorporate concepts from Social Psychology into American History courses to give students a way to understand the past in a new and different perspective. Together, David will explain a few concepts from Social Psychology and Eric will show how they can be applied in the study of American History. Participants will be asked to brainstorm ideas about what disciplines they could introduce into their own courses and/or share their existing interdisciplinary experiences with the group.
